Zoiks! I’m researching space age pop icon Charles Albertine and discovered that he wrote the music for the song “It’s Getting Harder All the Time” used on To Sir With Love (played by the Mindbenders). It’s a wonderfully mod tune, characteristic of the swinging 60’s but also timeless (“updated” by the Pandoras in 2018). Albertine is best remembered as the composer of Bandstand Boogie. But he’s also concocted some of the strangest and most complex arrangements on mid-century instrumental records. (For a sample, check out the bizarre title track written by Albertine for “Warm and Tender” by The Three Suns, its wigged-out organ solos slashing through the string section like Norman Bates’ mom carving the Thanksgiving turkey.)
