You're describing two different Hollywoods: the creative side and the business side. Hollywood creatives are generally liberal. They're for social justice and change. The business men (the term "...men" is deliberate) are essentially conservative--not necessarily politically but in terms of being risk-aversive. They have decided (wrongly of course) that no one wants to see people of color, women, LGBTQ etc. in leading roles and so they tend to make movies that look like movies of the past (and which promote ideals of the past).
