Your Morning Song 9: “Morning Song” and “Daylight” by the Kinks (Contemplative and Joyous)

After an overture, the Kinks’ most ambitious concept albums (Preservation Acts 1 and 2) open with two awakenings, “Morning Song” based on Grieg’s “Morning” from Peer Gynt) and “Daylight.” While these may seem like pleasant pastorals in the tradition of “Village Green Preservation Society,” the final outcome of the second album suggests that peaceful harmony is a dangerous illusion.
