Witchita Lineman is one of several Jimmy Webb-Glen Campbell collaborations. It's a perfect recording--one of the few. I think it sums up the angst of the time as well as anything edgier or harder. Its edginess is to suggest a bit of hope, without irony or artificial sweetening.
P.S. keep an eye out for Webb's albums when you're shopping for vinyl. The singing and instrumentation are much better than they have to be, given the fact that Webb could have just coasted through on the strength of the writing alone.
