We're always being exposed to new (new to us) music, but some of it clicks and some of it doesn't. In my experience, once a bit of new music clicks for me, and I follow the people associated with that music, and then the people associated with those people and on and on, eventually I'm in a different place.

I think there's a constant see-sawing between our tastes shaping the music we choose, and the music we choose shaping our tastes.
