We tend to think of themes as verbal, philosophical statements ("The theme of Oedipus Rex is that we should know our limitations" or some tripe like that). But just as instrumental music can have a wordless theme, so can literary / cinematic texts. "Theme" is how a work organizes our emotions. Philosophy need not apply.
