This is a very satisfying appraisal. Law and Order is a fine show that deserves its long life.
May I suggest another procedural: the British series “Line of Duty” (available on Acorn) about an internal affairs unit. Since it’s cops investigating cops, it’s the inverse of therapeutic, jerking the viewer around like a rag doll. The first three seasons work as a single unit — you don’t feel secure until the very last episode of the trilogy. It’s the most exciting tv show I’ve ever seen.
