These look good (I've read the Hesse).

Some suggestions:

"We" by Evgeny Zamyatin. The inspiration for both Brave New World and 1984, and psychologically much richer than either.

"The Man Who Was Thursday" by G. K. Chesterton. This fantasy marks the author's conversion to faith.

"Parables and Paradoxes," by Franz Kafka.

"Tristram Shandy" by Laurence Sterne.

"The Chill" by Ross McDonald
