These are great psychological solutions, but they're not mathematical. For that, consider the Monty Hall problem: You're dating three people who seem equally suitable. You flipped a coin and chose A, and it turns out that B was a dud. Are you better off staying with your first choice, or switching to C?

Using statistical reasoning, the Monty Hall theory says you should switch.

From a psychological (not statistical) point of view, it's often the case that our first choices / first impressions are not very accurate. So don't marry your high school sweetheart. You may regret the lost opportunity, but not as much as if you had given in to your original infatuation.
