There have always been books that challenged the norm. Sinclair Lewis challenged the norm. So did Stephen Crane or Mark Twain or Emile Zola.
Dante's De Monarchia (written in Latin) was placed on the Catholic list of forbidden books for centuries because he dared suggest that secular power and religious power should be kept separate.
The current anti-book agenda isn't about preserving morality or the status quo. It's about preserving ignorance.
