Their choices seem awfully retro. for college-age students Two possible reasons:

1. the course topic pre-selects students with a sense of history.

2. The respondents are trying to match what they think will be your choices.

May I suggest another playlist to try out on the 12: These aren't my favorite songs by a landslide, but I'd love to hear how "the kids today" would react.

Mothers of Invention, "Hungry Freaks Daddy"

Buffalo Springfield, "Mr. Soul"

Isaac Hayes, "Walk on By"

Young Rascals, "Groovin"

Byrds, "So You Want to Be a Rock and Roll Star"

Jefferson Airplane, "Coming Back to Me"

Kinks, "Rats"

Dr. John, "I Walk on Gilded Splinters"

Velvet Underground, "I Heard Her Call My Name"

Jimi Hendrix, "Purple Haze"
