The Staples Singers performed at the 1969 (pre-Woodstock) Atlanta Pop Festival. If I remember correctly, they surprised the rock-oriented audience but in a good way (I think that O Happy Day had just become a hit--don't remember if the Staples Singers sang this one or not.

In the field of Southern white gospel-rock crossover, Mylon LeFevre made major inroads with rock audiences. I think I saw Mylon live somewhere in the 70's, but (senior memory) not sure of where or when / where.
