I didn't catch a lot of these works, but they seem solid--except for Wham (once again we agree on the worst). And once again, the 80's Kinks get ignored by the critics ("Word of Mouth" at 128).
But there's one album from the top 100 that I consider a milestone: "Structures from Silence" by Steve Roach (58): one of the earliest ambient recordings (I heard of it from the old NPR program "Hearts of Space"). All the tracks use a very simple (maybe even cheesy) synthesizer looped in such a way to create the most relaxing / tranquil music imaginable, especially the title track. Listening to it, you can feel your cares and worries melt away as you're transported into bliss. Unlike most ambient music (e.g. Eno's), Roach's compositions (here and elsewhere) aren't designed to fade into the background; they require and reward mindful, awakened concentration. Spend 28 minutes with this composition and your world will change for the better.
