Songs for Insomniacs 99: Nico, “Evening of Light”

Nico’s final track from her masterpiece “The Marble Index” is an aural vision of the end of the world. “Evening” is pronounced with 3 syllables: the end point of the second law of thermodynamics, when light / energy is evened out. John Cale’s instrumentation underscores the frightening finality of finality.
