Songs for Insomniacs 88: David Raksin, Nocturne and Theme (From “The Bad and the Beautiful”)
David Raksin’s film and TV scores capture perfectly the anxiety and uncertainty of postwar / cold war America. “Nocturne” (from Vincente Minelli’s 1952 story of a Hollywood heel) is not likely to help anyone sleep. The theme that follows is more sedate but hardly relaxing.
