Songs for Insomniacs 61: Danny Gatton, “Harlem Nocturne”
In a recently republished interview, blues guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa cites Danny Gatton as his primary influence. In this single live performance, Gatton combines “Harlem Nocturne” with “Melancholy Serenade” (the theme from the Jackie Gleason Show) with the theme from the Perry Mason TV show, and he makes it look so effortless. Jeepers! To this day, Gatton is still underappreciated. If you’re new to his work, prepare to be blown away.
