Songs for Insomniacs 59: The Beach Boys, “Caroline No”
What does the singer regret more — the change in Caroline, or the change in himself?
A number of songs from Pet Sounds have been singled out as the Beach Boys’ best (or anyone else’s for that matter). The album closer, with its lonesome train whistle and plaintive barking dog, is my choice, and a fitting tune for insomniacs.
