Songs for Insomniacs 51: Marty Gold, “Good Night” (Beatles cover)
Marty Gold is best known for his space age pop arrangements (like this), but he also wrote and played an early Moog synthesizer “tribute” album to the Beatles. Gold’s version of the white album’s closer “Good Night,” (itself a pastiche of the sort of easy listening renditions of Beatles’ tunes you’d hear in department stores) forgoes the irony in favor of a sweetness and momentum lacking in the original.
