Songs for Insomniacs 28: Henry Mancini, “Theme from Hatari”

When Henry Mancini the composer and Henry Mancini the arranger get together, the results can be magical. In the “Theme from Hatari,” the rhythm section (on uppers) hammers out an urgent, repetitive beat, while the horn / string sections (on downers) leisurely develop a sad, almost nostalgic main theme, the two competing sections reaching a kind of resolution at the very end.
