Songs for Insomniacs 11: “Sleepy Time” by Raymond Scott
Early synthesizer music (1963) from electronic pioneer and eclectic-as-hell composer Raymond Scott, from the first of his three “Soothing Sounds for Baby” albums (entire album here). The final track, “Tic Toc,” is either (1) music for babies reduced to its simplest elements, (2) maddeningly minimalist music decades ahead of its time, and/or (3) a blissfully trippy experience for the most wasted of stoners. I’ll profile Scott in a later installment; after decades of neglect, he’s been rediscovered, so there’s lots of his work available for the adventurous listener.
