We are truly bereft.

If you’re not a jazz fan and you’re wondering about all the hoopla over the passing of pianist McCoy Tyner, here is one of his transcendent moments. Tyner’s playing on John Coltrane’s “Dear Lord” may not encapsulate the depth and breadth of his entire work, but it’s enough and much more. The interplay of Tyner’s piano and Coltrane’s saxophone can turn the most hardened jazz doubter into a believer.

No need to wish him peace in the next life. He already found it long ago.
