Raymond Chandler has an amusing scene in his Hollywood novel The Little Sister, in which a producer doesn't seem to notice when his dog pees on his leg.

The final line in the book (I don't think this is a spoiler) is "Looks like somebody lost a dream."

It's my favorite Chandler novel, and was made into a decent but not great movie starring James Garner, "Marlowe" (no literary connection to the recent Liam Neeson film, except that both feature Philip Marlowe as the protagonist).
