Here’s the final cut from what has become his last album. It’s a cute exercise in wishing, until the final spoken verse, when the singer remembers his father’s advice, and the whole song gets turned upside down. But then the fun resumes.
If there is an afterlife, John Prine may find the answers to all the questions he asked in this life. And if it’s an afterlife worthy of Prine, he’ll start over with a whole new set of questions.
