Perhaps the development of liposomal B12 is a stage in the evolution of humans toward a vegan identity. We're still in early days (assuming our species lives long enough). Or maybe climate change or a nuclear disaster will send us careening off in some other direction. Who knows?

All we can say for sure is that we are in the here and now. We can use our brief moments in the present to live compassionately or not. We cannot count on a longer or healthier lifespan, or some kind of posthumous genetic survival, or nirvana, or a heavenly reward.

We are faced with a very simple decision that is not subject to reason or self-interest.

We can choose to try to live as compassionately as possible, or choose not to try to live compassionately as possible.
