Loved reading this. I don't know if this direction has been classified as a trope, but the "all hell breaking loose in the final episodes" has produced some interesting (and perplexing) television. Typically the series finale offers closure, but not always. The Prisoner (last 2 episodes); Twin Peaks (pick one).
