Laleh’s “Goliat” is an anthem against tyranny. (Swede Pop Singles 2)

Swedish pop musicians tend to be more reticent than strident, but Iranian-Swedish singer Laleh stands out for for her ardent, often political songs. “Goliat,” urges young people to fight against tyranny and repression (embodied as Goliath). The song became a generation-defining hit (over 9.2 million YouTube views and 26k likes— not bad for a song in Swedish).

Even if you don’t know Swedish (translation below), the video with beaming fans singing out their defiance to Goliat conveys a powerful message of hope and the power of innocence. Armed with the lyrics, though, you may find a renewed sense of purpose, facing down threats by tyrants and their followers seeking to ravage democracies worldwide.
