I've always thought that when writer-directors put editorial comments in their descriptions, they were just having fun or showing off, but this comment explains the actual purpose. It's the writer of the writer-director making sure that the director stays in tune with the writer side. The director (from the point of view of writers at least) is more prone to wander off from the story.

Nancy Meyers is one of my favorite writers today. I hope she gets invigorated enough to continue at least as a writer, if not a writer-director.
