I've always enjoyed your posts on the Kinks.
And I've thought that Julien Temple's videos for the Kinks were some of the most complex treatments of song lyrics / music on record (and he's filmed a bunch). Your post reminds me that I need to watch his two Kinks documentaries.
By chance, I was in London when Temple's film "It's All True" (part documentary part social / artistic commentary--the title refers to an unfinished Orson Welles movie) starring Ray Davies was screened at the BFI. It's a wonderful film and apparently very hard to find, outside of BFI screenings.
