It's a reverse pull--in looking up the original album, I kept coming up on references to Dilla. Again, I'm not an aficionado, but I noticed how many people were appreciative of Dilla / Common. Although I'm an outsider, I find the sampled cut extremely moving. Dilla really has a gift for finding deep cuts. I've never been a big fan of rap--apparently because I never grew uip with it. Just as rap has roots that go back through music history, so should I appreciate the forward-history of rap, and your series is most helpful.
