Interesting analysis. I played Frank Ocean's Pyramids to get a sense of what Mayer's playing is like with other artists--to my ears, he has the ability to understand the emotion of a song and support it with his solo. A guitar solo has to be interesting on its own, but you don't want it to take over a melody. As you point out, Mayer shows respect for the music he plays on.
