In my experience with a peer writing / reviewing group, many people think they’re intuitive rather than analytical because they dislike writing outlines or synopses, but actually they’re analytical, just not very good at it. Most novice errors (e.g. on-the-nose or expository dialogue — two of my weaknesses — or structural deficits) result from the writer focusing on (analyzing) the immediate and not focusing on (intuiting) the big picture. As you quote Neil Simon, he always knows where he’s going but without a written outline.
