In essence, this is the dividing line. I notice that one of your "critics" in the comments here characterizes your views as "radical leftist authoritarian." There's nothing radical or leftist about altruism, unless one characterizes "rightist" as solipsistic and selfish.

George Lakoff distinguishes liberal versus conservative as the opposition between a nurturing mother and a punishing father (I'm simplifying a bit). Even a punishing father doesn't want his children to suffer because of his narcissistic selfishness; he simply thinks that sternness is a more effective parenting strategy than kindness. Our new crop of right wingers is better characterized as malicious sadists who want everyone--their own children as well as others--to suffer. This is why anti-maskers (literally) spit on children who wear masks. It’s not about rights; it’s about wrongs and the “right” of people to inflict wrongdoing on others.
