In 1950, one of the leading architects of neoliberalism, Milton Friedman, argued for government subsidies to the needy (what we now call welfare). He argued AGAINST corporate welfare, however. Under Reagan-style neoliberalism, we’ve increased corporate handouts and tax-breaks, while ignoring or penalizing the poor.
