I'm not sure the studios want to negotiate. I read the response of one of the AMPTP reps and he seemed to be planning a war of attrition--not to get the writers to the table but to render them powerless once they got there. His position was that during the strike, the studios would lose a little profit, remain untouched in the ebitda arena, and actually have a bit more cash (probably from not having to pay writers).
