I’m afraid I’m too cynical. You seem to be more hopeful (although your optimism is clearly hard-won and intelligently reasoned). You expect people to change, and if we as a nation lost that expectation, we would be doomed. Thank you for your clear and honest essay — it made me think about a lot of things.
