At the heart of some of this discussion is the notion of counter-intuitiveness (which I've expounded on--non-mathematically of course) in other discussions on Cantor's Paradise. Our intuition, I'm coming to think, iii not to be relied on without some testing in advance. The importance of measured skepticism is important in other fields as well, like political science.
