I'm a big fan of thrift store vinyl (though lately the pickings have been slim). I'll often buy a 45 rpm that looks interesting and that I've never heard of (even if it's in bad shape), preferably on an obscure label, then take it home and read about the artist (I know I could stand there at the store with my cell phone, but it's not as much fun). One of my mystery purchases was "Every Beat of My Heart" by the Pips. "Was this the same Pips as in "Gladys Knight and...." Turns out Gladys is on the record, just not given credit until later. The record was on the original Huntom label, worth quite a bit (if it were in better shape). Only one copy has been sold on Discogs, for $9.99. Somebody got a bargain.
