If a man thinks he has the right to grab a woman’s butt without permission, that sense of entitlement is primary. And it is dangerous. It taints any good he may do for women elsewhere. The man is still in charge. He gets to decide what they deserve.
Even more problematic for me was Franken’s “I don’t remember. I go to a lot of public events” defense (my paraphrase). If he didn’t grope women then there’s nothing to remember. If he did grope and doesn’t remember then groping must be second nature. If he did grope and does remember, then he’s a liar as well.
Franken should have stepped down before Gilibrand spoke up.
