Ideally, faculty of all political leanings should encourage students to be open-minded and think for themselves. It’s not surprising that a conservative faculty member should have persuaded students not to invite Milo Yiannopoulos to speak, because Yiannopoulos opposes open-mindedness. Rather than measuring / objecting to the static beliefs of a particular subset of the professoriate, perhaps we should evaluate teachers on the growth of their students from the kind of dogmatism most people begin college with to a greater dedication to seeking the truth, even when it contradicts their initial assumptions (like what Kohlberg advocated, with the corrections of Gillian).
But most of the pundits and celebrities criticizing professors for being to liberal would be only too happy with an entire faculty of dogmatists, as long as they touted conservative values.
