I'd agree with you here. The twist in Se7en is based on an understanding of human nature that permeates the entire film. I'll take If any day. Heck, I'd rather rewatch The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry or Kiss Me Deadly (knowing the two endings of each film). Been there, done that encapsulates my perspective about a number of twisty films from the 80's to the aughts.
