I was a Spanish major as an undergraduate, and took lots of foreign languages in grad school.

If you gave me a test to choose between Valenciano and Catalan, I'd probably do well by selecting the stranger (less Hispanic--lots of unusual consonant combinations) terms as Catalan (FWIW, my grad school had a course in Catalan, but I never took it.)

I'm ashamed to admit that I couldn't tell the difference between Catalonian and Valencian literary figures--just a few names, like Blasco-Ibanez and Ramon Llull. As for music and art (other than Miro), I'm a complete novice. What do you listen to from Valencia?
