I understand that Democrats are afraid of making the wrong choice for nominee because so much is riding on the general election. But at this point it makes no sense to be oppositional. And maybe it never will.

With a little research, I could concoct a true and detailed attack piece on any one of the 20 nominees. Or I could spend the same time building up the candidate I like most. I’m not saying we should censor ourselves, but here’s how how to criticize a contender: “I prefer Candidate X over Candidate Y because of X’s stance (record, achievement, whatever) on _______.” Then go on to talk about X’s strengths, not Y’s weaknesses.

The Sanders supporters who attacked Clinton and the Clinton supporters who attacked Sanders during and after the 2016 primary did no one any favors. And some are still doing it 3 years later.
