I think the problem is that as writers, we can always "see" our story, but that doesn't mean that anyone else can. We have to be able to step outside our own bubble in order to test an idea or concept.

One tell of bubble storytelling occurs when writers are trying to explain their storyworld with long, clunky blocks of narration, and heavy-handed, expositional dialogue, because writers feel the reader "needs" this information in order to "see" the story. If the reader / viewer can "see" the story without all these kludges, then the concept is probably pretty good.
