I think the Kinks' late 70's-80's work is much underrated by the musical establishment. The interesting thing (and I think this is true of Weller too) is that they adapted to the 80's without selling out their legacy. Even though some of the BritPop folks acknowledge their debt to 60's era of Ray and Dave, the 80's Kinks are more like siblings than uncles.
