I think that when people avoid picking a lane genre-wise, it's because (1) they want to make a distinctive statement, or (2) they want to avoid making a distinctive statement. You can work within a system to make a compelling statement, or you can work outside a system to make a compelling statement. But if your goal isn't to make a compelling statement, it doesn't matter which path you choose.

Because I had read some positive comments about the album, I skimmed through every track on Justice, and they ranged from well-done over-produced pablum to badly-done over-produced pablum. "Peaches" was for me the best track; but the best of a bad lot isn't necessarily good.

Any shallow listeners who want to feel good about their shallow view of the world should find "Justice" a very rewarding album. I don't think MLK himself would have been flattered by the superficial attention he receives here.
