I think Dylan is a genius. But not all geniuses reach me on a gut level. I admire Picasso but I love Goya. I admire Sophocles but I love Euripides.

This is a personal rather than universal judgement. There are people who are moved emotionally by Dylan. But to my taste at least, while his melodies are strong and his lyrics are intriguing, he lacks the perspective of the outsider, of the downtrodden, of the sufferer. I'll take Gene Clark over Dylan any day.
