I served at Morris Brown College (part of the Atlanta University Complex) for a few years in the 1980's. One of my colleagues in the English Department taught / inspired James Alan McPherson (a major American writer who remembered her fondly). Without her dedication, we might have lost a major talent. Spelman and Morehouse (to a lesser extent Clark Atlanta) get the fame and endowments but the open admission policy schools like Morris Brown and other. less prestigious HBCU's (often sponsoring the first children of a family to attend college) don't get the credit they deserve. If we eliminate / combine such HBCU's, we will do our nation a great disservice.
