I saw a program with Philip Eisner (“Event Horizon”) in which he emphasized the importance of leaving things out of the introduction in order to build audience engagement. I’m not speaking to your work, Cameron, but I’ve read a lot of entry sci-fi scripts that spent too much time in the first ten pages building the fictional world without involving the audience. Think about how much of the world of “Total Recall” or “The Matrix” are revealed later on (the big reveal in Matrix 1 takes place about midway through).
