I may not have been clear — I certainly don’t think Kobe Bryant is remotely like Weinstein or Epstein. I brought them up to say that we shouldn’t avoid discussing someone because the person met a tragic end.
My point is that what matters is how the person lived (and from what we know Weinstein and Epstein lived villainous lives; Bryant didn’t). If the original article is accurate, bringing up the allegation against Bryant doesn’t necessarily tarnish him if he acted honorably. This, as I understand it, is the point of the Medium article; I was expanding on the issue of under what circumstances we should report on / discuss someone who died tragically.
I’m neither here nor there about whether the Washington Post reporter should have made the original tweet about the assault case ( wouldn’t have done so myself), but from what I know (and I may be missing something), I think the newspaper’s firing of her was too extreme as a response.
