I looked at your article about Van Halen and Paul McCarthy, and at some of the other discussions, and enjoyed them very much.
From my analytical point of view, it might be helpful to separate songs with words from instrumental music when looking at the impact of music onthe brain / body. Words I believe activate a different topography in the brain / body. Sio listening to s aong in a foreign language that you don't speak has a different impact than listening to a song whose language you know or know partially. Reading a poem also activates a certain network, but reading the lyrics to a Leonard Cohen poem, for example, and listening to a Leonard Cohen song don't overlap very much in terms of visceral impact.
